Agreements for technology transfer and reserch contracts with companies

 

• Cession of selected plants of the Asturias varieties: Albarín Blanco, Verdejo Negro, Moscatel de grano menudo rojo and Moscatel de grano menudo blanco, for a vineyard pilot plantation in a piece of ground, property of Bodegas Chacón Buelta S.L.

Aim: make quality wine from Antique local grapevines from Asturias, with high adaption to the particular conditions of these vineyards. 2001-2003.

 

• Clones selection for paid wines production.

Aim: study and selection of Albariño variety clones, adapted to the particular conditions of Terras Gauda S.A. vineyard and proper for the elaboration of wines with a singular seal of the cellar. 2002 – 2005.

 

• Collaboration with the Spanish Office of Vegetal Varieties (OEVV) for the description and registration in the Register of Antique varieties from Galicia and Asturias.

Aim: due to the published descriptions done by our group, Spanish varieties of Albarín Blanco, Verdejo Negro and Moscatel de grano menudo, were included in the Official List of Spanish Grapevine Varieties. Their culture, was then authorised in Asturias, and then authorised in the “Indicación Geográfica Protegida Vinos de la Tierra de Cangas”. Some false synonyms were solved, and new varieties of marketing importance were found, as happened with Albariño and Caíño in Galicia.

Antique varieties (Blanco Legítimo, Tinta Castañal, Agudelo, Albarello, etc.) were described, which will allow to include them in the Official List of Spanish Grapevine Varieties and legalize their culture in some of the Origin Denominations.

• Algaterra Project: new agricultural inputs for the improvement of organic crops made with Galician seaweeds.

The objective of this Project is to made new agricultural inputs from seaweed discards that are produced in food industry, and prove their efficiency to being used in organic and sustainable agriculture. For this, both known and simple techniques -dehydration and grinding – will be used, as well as other more sophisticated ones, such as the elaboration of natural extracts, in order to improve the conditions of organic orchard, potato and cine crops.

Seaweed is a very abundant and diverse natural resource in Galicia. In recent years, the food industry discovered a resource in gastronomy and food sector that until then was only valued by oriental culinary culture. The growth of this food industry leads to the generation of high value discards that can be used for the production of new products. At the same time, the organic production system has significantly increased its surface area in recent years, and Spain leads the ranking of UE countries with more surface area to organic agriculture. This sector demands new inputs that contribute to improving the development of crop plants and soil characteristics, and seaweed is a quality ecological resource that has benefits: as a fertilizer, to improve the physical properties of the soil and as a bio stimulant.

ALGATERRA will respond to this demand and will make the activity around Galician seaweed industry more environmentally, socially and economically sustainable, within the framework of a green and circular economy.

Through the project, new agricultural inputs will be elaborated: fertilizers and amendments, as a component or additive in substrate and as bio stimulant, and an agronomic evaluation of the products developed will be carried in order to know their effects. Moreover, use guides are going to be elaborated as dehydrated fertilizer in potato and vineyard; as dehydrated fertilizer in lettuce-tomato rotation; as substrate for crop culture in seedlings stage; and as bio stimulant through foliar application in vineyard.

This project is financed by the call for aid to support pilot projects, development of new products, practises, processes and technologies in the agroforestry field, co-financed with the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (FEADER), the framework of the Program for Rural Development (PDR) of Galicia 2014-2020.
